Sundays at Unity

I have spoken in the past about Michael Mirdad, the minister at Unity Church here in Sedona. Sundays with Michael and the Unity community is one of the highlights of my week.

I write this today about my personal resonance and heart-filled gratitude to the Unity community under Michael's wonderful leadership. Each Sunday that I have been fortunate to attend, it seems to me as if somehow Michael instinctively knows what I need to hear and his orations target exactly what I have faced the week before, assisting me in processing and releasing it. That makes me lighter providing more room to be filled with the Divine. Others have shared the same sentiment with me as we all glean the different key points we need from his sermons.

Unity’s Sunshine Café is staffed with wonderful volunteers and allows us to meet and greet over meals prepared with Love.

I am thankful to Michael and to the incredible staff at Unity that I have gotten to know since joining, like Sandy, Judy, Michele and Lorina and all the volunteers that make Sedona feel like home.

Internal and External Spirits

Apologies, but we had an overlap with articles today: Why do we cry - LINK

First Spirit was providing me with so many topics for today's post that I decided to start with answering a question that I am often asked "How do I recognize spirit?"

First let me explain that I needs to classify spirit into 2 categories for the sake of my explanation: 1) the spirit or energy within, that some call connections to their higher self and 2) spirits external to ourselves. Spirit presents itself in different ways to different people. And spirit will present itself to you in different ways depending on the circumstance. You just have to be aware and listen.

What is Spiritual Transformation?

Spiritual transformation is not a light topic, but one that will surely curl your hair. Just think what the caterpillar has to endure to become a butterfly and you know that transformation is not easy.
There are a plethora of times that I have experienced profound spiritual transformations in my life. Here are excerpts of the last two I have personally experienced.

I remember a dozen plus years back I was put into a situation of great spiritual growth, yet it didn't feel like one at the time. I had no idea what I wanted in life. It was just after 911 and tech consulting gigs were all put on hold. I was living off credit cards, had to sell my house to pay down bills (so homeless), and moved into my sisters, for 3 weeks that is. Why so short of a time? yes at first i felt a few days of despair, but it was from that place where a great transformation for me occurred once I discovered the good in my current situation. Once I changed my beliefs about what I was experiencing from one that contrasted a positive to one of gratitude, my world changed on a dime. In 3 short weeks I was back in a position where I could move out and move forward again.
I think that we find out what we are truly made of when we are put into situations where our higher divine self tests our strengths.   Based on my experiences, I believe that when we hit our particular rock bottom or are provided with a crossroad, it is up to us how the experience will play out and how long it will last.

At this point in my life once again I find myself at a crossroads of sorts; I am single again for the first time in a decade, renting a temporary furnished place in a beautiful part of the country, Sedona, AZ. I recently resigned from a lucrative corporate career as a technology VP for one of the largest banks in the US where I was accountable for high visibility 25+ million dollar projects. I worked over 80 hours a week and although I was good at it and at the top of my game, it provided me no joy.

In the last year, I have gone within and what I saw was not pretty, but ego-filled and naive.  In recent days when I questioned that decision of quitting the bank; I didn't get out of bed, but just stayed there and lived in the feeling as the processing continued. Other days I found my secret space atop the mountain where I would lay for hours and drink in all Earth’s beauty.  I have been fortunate to be in a place that has energies that have quickened this introspective processing as my masks and walls disintegrated. No longer did any doubt enter my mind.
For the first time in a long time I am truly free. I have no idea what tomorrow will bring but I am excited by the possibilities.  The world is truly my oyster and I cannot wait to rise early each day. I feel more alive now than I ever felt before as I catch myself welling up with gratitude filled with my connection to the divine and drinking from the cup of abundance that the universe has provided.  No longer do I walk the dark path of indecision, fear and worry, but I go with the flow and take each step with joyous eagerness. I find myself often breaking out in song as the deliciousness of life unfolds before me and I find gratitude for the my many blessings each day.

In conclusion, true spiritual transformation usually has occurred for me after long hard battles, introspection and processing. It lasts as long as my collective consciousness sees it as a less then positive growth experience.
So I say to you this day do not recoil in fear when you face your crossroad, but know that it's your opportunity to break out of your cocoon and become the butterfly. It is then that we rise from the smoke transformed in all our beauty.”

When to Say Enough

Update added August 23, 2013
THE BOOK ABOUT SPIRITUAL GROWTH IS COMING IN SEPTEMBER.
I have been told it is a cross between the Celestine Prophecy and 50 shades of Gray
email LeezaDonatella@gmail.comif you are interested in joining the mailing list for announcement

Have you ever been in a relationship where you been taken for a ride? By ride I am not referring to a summers day in the car with the top down as it meanders through fields of fragrant flowers. I am speaking of letting individuals or groups, through some sense of false entitlement, take advantage of your good nature.

The good natured are sometimes targets for those who are less than positive. They come in many shapes and forms under the guise of partner and friend and play roles like helpless victims to gain our sympathy. These interactions are the best at teaching us discernment.

As a good natured person, learn discernment between helping, enabling and being taken. Know what saying"enough" to that person who has used you in the past feels like as you send them Peace, Love and Gratitude for the lesson and are no longer taken for that ride.

Sometimes it is when we are ready to move forward and stand up we say enough as we learn and are transformed.

Have a day filled with Love,

I Hate what I Do -Reflecting on an Unfulfilling Job

Sunday nights are filled with the dread of having to go back to work the next morning. Every day of the week feels like you are walking through cement and you labor through until that magic day.  Yes, Friday arrives once more and there is a little boogie in your step as you stride to work knowing that you will have two days off once this day ends. The final 8 hours of the work week feels like an eternity as the clock slowly ticks away the seconds until quitting time.  With each minute that passes you are a moment closer to that long awaited weekend.
Why is it when some of us work a job all we can do is wait until the weekend arrives to be happy? If the above describes you, then perhaps it is time to evaluate the job you have. If you truly hate what you are doing then it is may be time to find one that you love. You will be happier, healthier and more productive.

Take a chance and find bliss. Do what makes you truly joyous in each moment then those moments will start to string together and you will find a fulfilled life.

Be Yourself to Free Yourself

Ah, the masks that we wear to hide ourselves from our outer world. But who are we reading hiding from? I think we hide from ourselves when we put on the mask that we show to others.

I recently sat down and thought about the masks that I have worn over the years and wondered when that whole mask wearing thing started and why. I came to a conclusion that it started for me in adolescence. I am guessing that is a common occurrence for most of us.  But why did I feel the need to create masks?

Was it because I was afraid of something? Perhaps I did not like myself and came to the conclusion that the real me was not someone others would like? Hmm.
Masks hide our real selves from others as well as ourselves.

What would happen if we drop our masks? Taking off our masks is not easy since we need to face ourselves and we may not like what we see, but if we are truly ever to be free we need to discard these masks and take the chance that what is behind the mask is worthy of all the Love this life has to offer. Masks really do not define us, but disguise us from our true selves.

As I continue to grow and blossom into the spiritual being, I discard and dispose of masks.

So discard your masks and be yourself. It can be very freeing.

How to raise your consciousness in 2013

I am often asked about the raising of one's consciousness. Here are a few first words on the topic that may serve you well.

With the shift to the new frequencies in late 2012, energies are shifting and vibrating at a"higher" frequency and we need to shift with them. Like most things in the universe there is the easy way and the hard way of doing things.  If you do not go with the flow, the universe will drag you forward kicking and screaming.  And yes I know this from experieince.
So, what can you do to raise your consciousness right now? A quick hit and great first start for raising your consciousness is to find a quiet place, close your eyes, breathe and be present. The idea here is to leave behind that which is not positive and aligns with your true self. Think of your true self as all that is positive. If an idea pops into your head know that it is your ego distracting you. Acknowledge the interference with something like “ ok, darling I hear you” or “ Not now, please”  and get back to the quiet. Even if at first you can only do this for five minutes without being distracted, that is fine. Ultimately, if would be great if you could do this for 20 minutes twice daily. Just starting with this exercise will help you start your shift in vibrational alignment to your true higher self and help with alignments to the new energies present in 2013.
For the long term in order to continue the shift and raise your consciousness and vibrational frequency, you may need to look within to determine what long term programmed beliefs, thoughts, and habits that you are holding onto that do not align to your true higher self, the divine within you. This sounds easy but is not since it makes us drop the masks we wear and look at ourselves which can be painful. Here is a very simplified way of looking at it. It is time to clean out your refrigerator and throw away all the items with past due dates.  The refrigerator is your divine self.  The divine self is pure love, joy, compassion and bliss.  If there are any other beliefs, thoughts, and habits you have about yourself or others that are not one of these items of the divine self,  like fear, worry, anger, resentment, etc. then they need to be identified, understood, owned, blessed and released. Releasing from the physical body can manifest in many ways including tears and other forms of expulsion, but I will save those details for the upcoming post about transformation.
Just know that as you release you make room for the divine self to enter your being.

What is an Orb? Video

I recently received a phone call and was asked about orbs.  Apparently there were dozens of orbs floating near a young child and there was some concern. Should I be afraid of them, are they good and does size or color matter.  Click here to see You Tube Video

I can tell what I believe to be true about orbs in the hope it will help clear up some confusion.
believe that an orb is intelligent energy in a form others than ours that can manifest aitself s a pinpoint of light or as a very large ball of light. Orbs in many colors have been witness, from clear to deep colors and translucent to opaque. Their shapre does not necessary have to be round, although those seem to be the most reported.
I believe that there can be many origins for these orbs including but not limited to a being that at one time lived on Earth in a physical form. I also believe that the being may have never lived on Earth in a physical form, like as one example, since I believe in Angels as Loving energy, then an orb could be a representation of that Loving energy. I like to think that they are here checking on us and helping guide us in our experiences here on Earth.
I think that there are many possibilities all of which are good ones.  I have never gotten the sense that an orb has an energy contrasting to the positive.
I hope this helps those of you who have this question.

Experiencing the Divine Self

Words barely scratch the surface to describe the state of bliss, joy and love experienced when you fully connect to your Divine Self.

My posts are usually a little lighter, but I write today about a recent personal experience that may be a little weighty for some.  As I walk the path to increase my own vibration here in Sedona,  like most of us, I continue to process and release old beliefs, habits and thoughts that no longer serve me. By doing so I am able to lighten up and make room for my Higher Divine Self to enter.

I often catch glimpses of my Divine Self through moments of connection and the feeling is scrumptious and delectable.

I have recently perceived Bliss, Joy and Love lasting for hours on end.    Below is the series of events that transpired to open me to this indescribable experience.

Through the help of a fellow healer I was able to free a blockage and fully open the back of my heart chakra. It is thought that the back of the heart chakra is the place where we receive Love. Through a ton of processing and releasing, with all chakras now wide open I then focused my intentions and asked my Higher Divine Self to enter my physical being. . I chuckle as the words "be careful what you ask for" come to mind.

I was open, baby and receptive to its presence. Shortly thereafter I was at an event, standing next to a table, when a unnamed friend full of grace and love came over to greet me. They gently touched the upper middle of my back, right over my now fully opened Heart Chakra and with this innocent gesture something happened that I had never felt before. Unlike the Kundalini experiences I have had in past, this flood of extreme bliss, joy and love poured evenly and simultaneously into all my chakras, like a flash flood that soon saturated and bathed every cell in my being from my head to my feet.  I could feel each atom in each cell move along with the pulsating flow of blood coursing through my veins. I held my breathe for a moment as I stood there and white-knuckled the tables edge, my grip so strong that I thought a piece of the table might break off in my hand. Barely cognizant, I looked around to see if my feeble attempt at some semblance of composure did not give away what was actually happening. The half a minute or so that it took me to regain some composure seemed like an eternity. And the incredible feeling, well, that stayed with me for several hours.

As I walked around enveloped in this astounding feeling, the people I encountered sensing my bliss smiled from its song. I sigh as I tell you that it is one thing to read or study something, but very different to experience its full intensity.

The next day after breakfast I meditated and found myself pining for that feeling I had experienced just the day before. What exactly was that? Although the unnamed friend who helped activate the experience may know, I was embarrassed to ask.  As most of us are, I am still processing and releasing beliefs about putting myself out there and sharing my most intimate details, although this blog I share with all of you has helped me shed some inhibitions and makes it much easier to free myself from the chains that bind. Perhaps I will, in short order, courageously confess to the unnamed facilitator that they were the catalyst for this amazing experience.

So how do I get this feeling back? It is like candy; you love the taste, so sweet and delicious and when the sugar rush goes away, you just want more. The difference is that this feeling does not cause a cavity, diabetes or like a drug has no ill effects, but it is just if not more addictive.

Questions like. "Do I need to continually be activated by someone else?"; "Can I turn it on again by myself?"  danced in my head while I spent a couple of days researching for  answers.   I found something that I could wrap my head around. I believe that the word is called Śaktipāta and it's the activation of one's Higher Divine Self facilitated by another. Ah, it has a name and it was me knowing more of my true self.

Would it be hard to get to this state again? The answer for me was no, for once I realized that it was me, my Higher Divine Self that I was feeling, just  being still and taking a moment to recall the feeling brings it back to me at full force, bathing me in bliss. Way Cool! I can achieve this state anytime I want!

I compare it to the first learned to ride a bicycle,  I had someone there who was more experienced to help me get going. Once I gained my balance I could pretty much ride the bicycle on my own.  The only difference here was that there were no training wheels and the unnamed facilitator of this activation was not aware that it was going to happen, nor did I have any idea that I would be riding a bike that day.

I believe that this activation occurred because I had all my chakras wide open and set the intention to bring my Higher Divine Self more into my physical body.  And experiencing this Bliss, Joy and Love of your Higher Divine Self is better than any Earthy experience.  So yes, it is better than sex or chocolate. And for those who know me, it would have to be really, really incredible for me to say that!

I have certainly had many less than pleasurable human experiences I call "opportunities for positive growth" that I would not wish upon any other, but this stupendously marvelous experience without question makes up for all of the crappy ones combined!

I send gratitude to the unnamed facilitator and the hope to all of you who have not already done so, that you experience this same type of bliss in this lifetime.

Have a day filled with love and deliciousness,

Drumming Healing Power

I am a firm believer that there are many ways to heal the soul and I believe that music is one of them. I talk about drumming today after participating in a couple of drumming events this past week.

Used for centuries, drumming has been a,for of celebration and healing. It is an especially good way to tune our being allowing what no longer serves us to fall away. Depending on the size of the drum, the sound of its beat will resonate with one of our main chakras.
The type of drumming can be as different as night and day, like the two events I attended this past week.

Weekly drumming at Oak Creek Brewery is not your typical drumming circle and includes the raw talent of about 30 or so people playing drums accompanied by a smattering of maracas, tambourines or gourds and dancers.

The beat of 30+ drums of all shapes and sizes beating in unison vibrates deep into your core. Their rhythmic primal sound penetrating the cavernous depths of the bottom four chakras making them pulsate and breathe with vibratory color. The raw excitement builds and builds within you until you can no longer contain yourself as you start to move from side to side, then dance or perhaps even grab a drum yourself. The joy that fills the room is so intense that it is at times it is overwhelming, bringing tears of elation and amazement. Then as it subsides you catch your balance and know you are healed. It is a delicious experience.

I also participated in a drumming event this week through onebillionrising.org to support a campaign to end violence against women.
The mood was light on this Valentine’s Day atop the natural red rock platform at the base of Cathedral Rock in Sedona. There were prayers of thanks and healing intentions and then the music began.  Ayande Andre and Mynzah Ravencrow were, as usual, in excellent form as the main performers for the event. It was full of light and joy as attracted spectators of all walks of life that soon turned into participants including tourists and hikers before braving the arduous climb to the cathedrals spires. Spirit orbs were witnessed flying and captured in some photos next to the dancers.  You can see a bit of the action by click this link to see the YouTube Video for Cathedral Rock Drumming

What I like most about this form of modality is that there is no talking, orations or lectures."

Sometimes it is just about allowing the beat to speak through and within you as you connect to your divine self!

Have a glorious day filled with Love!

How to keep the Romance in your Relationship

In a previous post I heard these words “To the World you are Someone, but to this Someone you are the World" and I sigh. I do not usually write more than once about a specific themed topics in the same week, but with it being Valentine’s Day, I could not pass up the chance. Yeah guys, I got the memo, this is the last one, I promise!

For those who are not with anyone this day, one day soon, someone will walk into your life and you will know why it didn't work out with anyone else.
On this day all romantics get to show their stuff to the special someone who rocks their world. I want to share with you some do and don'ts that will carry you forward through the rest of the year.

  1. Do not limit the romance to only one day a year. Keeping the romance all year with your special someone does not have to involve a dozen roses, perfumes or dinner at a five star restaurant. Making an effort to remember little things will keep the spark in even the longest running relationship. Remember to look into their eyes, and touch their hand as if it were the first time. Whisper into their ear and tell them how much your care and mean to them.
  2. Take the time to see your partner. Keep their gaze a second or two longer, just long enough so they know that you truly see them.
  3. Respect your partner. Allow your partner to be themselves, have their own interests and give them space to express themselves. Do not try to change them but embrace the differences that attracted you to them.
And, now I saved the most important for last.

  4. Respect yourself. Do not be afraid to speak up and ask for what you want in your relationship. Don't be afraid to say what is not acceptable and what excites you with your partner. Do not lose yourself to your partner but continue to grow as individuals as well as together within the relationship. It is by growing that we truly complement each other.

They say that the little things in life matter in relationship. The above is my list.

Have a day filled with love... and  hugs and kisses,

LeeZa Donatella

The Difference between Love’s Fantasy and Romanticism

I was asked by a couple of readers if I could expand on the difference between the fantasy or the dream of love that I mentioned in my recent post named “What is True Love?” and romanticism.
Being a romantic, caring, playful goofball, I have a different view of life and could go on and on about romantic love. Being a Piscean, I think this is especially true since we tend to have romantic visions swimming in our heads at most times.

So yes, I believe in romance between two partners that continues for years into their relationship with kisses that last for hours, deep sighs when you look into your beloved eyes that breathes loves essence throughout your entire being, allowing you to literally tingle from the bottom of your toes to the top of your head, settling gently in your heart. You find an extra skip in your step and appreciate with fondness little things like notes on the mirror.  But just because you are romantic it does not mean that your feet are not planted on the ground.
Does this sound like an opportunity for an oxymoron to you? Well, it’s not and let me tell you why. The above is a romantic’s view of love. It is however not deluded with the fantasy of love.

The fantasy of love never has bad times, lost jobs, bad days and or “Honey, I am tired. ” The fantasy never has an accident, does not get sick, and has no farts, vomiting, or going to the bathroom and leaving the seat up. It never sweats, has to do laundry or chores, and the car never breaks down.
The romantic in love has all the above, but when their partner comes in from working in the yard in the summer, they find the sweat and stench of their armpits, somehow appealing. They look at holding the head of their partner when they are praying to the porcelain goddess as a loving act of kindness and not a chore, they chuckle when the other farts, cheer them up when they are having a bad day and laugh their ass off at themselves when they fall into the toilet at 3 am because the seat is up. When driving together on a deserted road and the car breaks down, they view it as an opportunity to explore or slow down in life instead of an inconvenience. They find anything they do with their partner to be play, even their taxes.

If after hearing this you want to reach out and slap me, then you need to find the romance darling. Let me leave you with this:
  •  If you have found that kind of love with someone, cherish the time you have together. Share romance with your beloved everyday and you will both live a more enriched life together
  • If you are still searching for that special someone, love yourself and know the difference between the dream/fantasy and romance. You will attract the love you seek

I smile as I recall a partner from a long time past where we shared romantic love such as described above.  So yeah, it can happen!
Wishing you a day filled with Love,

Can you see Angels?

I have been asked on occasion if I believe in Angels and if we can see or sense them around us. I guess it depends on what you consider an Angel.

I think there is more than one type of Angel and I am more than happy to tell you about the ones I believe are part of the life I experience. First, I do not believe like others that Angels are chubby cheeked cherubs or fly around on large outstretched wings wielding swords ready to do battle.

My personal take if that there are two classifications of Angels. The first are vibrations or frequencies of unconditional love and light. These Angels are all around us, are aware of the experiences we agreed to prior to our birth and stick with us to assist us. Some call them our Guardian Angels. In order to know their presence you need to vibrate at a frequency closer to theirs. We feel, sense and see their presence when we know more of our divine self and raise our vibration and frequency to theirs.
The other types of Angels are easy to see but few tend to notice. They are the people filled with love whose kind acts we witness each day. Take note the next time you experience a stranger who smiles and says good morning to you as you pass each other, the one holding the door open for you, holding the elevator, asking you if you need assistance with loading packages to your vehicle. Or perhaps you have seen Angels volunteering at non- profit organizations or venues.
Take note and you will see that there is something in their eyes, their walk or their mannerisms.  When I have the pleasure of experiencing one these Angels it makes me want to be more like them. As I strive to be like them I feel so blessed when someone says to me you are an Angel because then I know I am in good company.

So I think the phrase for today's blog post is to strive to be an Angel to someone each and every day!

If the world were full of people striving to be Angels filled with love and light, then we truly would have Heaven on Earth. There would be only peace and understanding and no war. Gee, what a way to quicken ascension!
Wishing you a day filled with Love,

LeeZa Donatella
