Stress and Your Health

Living a peaceful life, where you're free to spend your days focusing on love, seldom puts you into stressful situations.  

Now for the rest of Americans and the world who have to drag themselves up out of bed each morning, deal with getting the kids ready,the commute, traffic, and work overload at a position that imposes strict deadlines. Now that can be stressful.

Based on the American Psychological Association study July 2014 of Americans 73%

regularly experience psychological symptoms caused by stress and 77%  regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress.  The most common physical ailments sited were irritability, anger, crying and nervousness, that feeling like you want to jump out of your skin.  The most common physical ailments sited were fatigue, headache, stomach issues. 

But stress does more than just cause you a belly ache. The US National Library of Medicine April 2010 (PMC2858344) article states that chronic stress may be a contributor to the increased risk for obesity and other metabolic diseases and WdMD lists the top 10 health problems as heart disease, asthma, obesity, diabetes, headaches, depression, gastrointestinal problems, accelerated aging, alzheimer's disease and premature death.

That's some pretty serious stuff folks, just because we allow things to "get to us."

I had a friend who way-back-when introduced me to the concept that if you are not "at-ease" then the body becomes  "dis-eased."  The point of this play on words never hit home until I started doing my research on stress related illnesses. 

Okay, so I've ruined your morning coffee with my blatant statement of fact. By I come with some answers that may make your day a little less, well, stressful. 


The top answer is and will always be to Meditate. I have received countless emails from you and spoken to scores of people that tell me they have trouble meditating. Let me spell it out for you in a few easy steps. 
  • Close your eyes and breathe. Take a few minutes and focus on your breathing.  Start by breathing deeply until you can feel the breathe travel into and out of your nostrils. Now return to natural breathing, still focused on feeling the air flow. 
  • Be Present. We all get distracted. Be present in your breathing and everytime you get distracted, come back to the focus on the air flow in your nostrils.
  • Tune into your Body - You will notice that as you begin to relax in this process, your body will naturally release some of the tension in the muscles of your face, neck, chest and back
Even a few minutes of this type of meditation will decrease your heart rate and lower your blood pressure.

Approaching the October 2014 Mercury RetroGrade

For those of you who are uninitiated, 3 to 4 times a year, the planet Mercury appears to move backward in the sky. It’s an illusion, of course, and occurs because of Mercury and Earth's relationship to each other at a particular point in their orbits as well as each of their relative speeds. Why should you care? Well, it seems that this retrograde motion has an effect on some aspects of our world.

Mercury is the ruler of all types of communications, transportation and commerce. It also rules electronics like your computer and one of our pride possessions, our cell phones, for example.

During these approximate 21 day retrograde periods things seem to go amuck. To add insult to injury,  the up to a couple of weeks before the retrograde officially begins is called a pre shadow period. During this pre-period, the swift-footed ruler seems to lose momentum as we start experiencing delays, misunderstandings as well as mechanical, technological and electronic mishaps and breakdowns.  

As I write this article we are in the pre-retrograde shadow period as Mercury is almost at a station-ary position.

Take note of the time of the retrograde.  It is suggested not to engage in binding contracts, expect delays when traveling or don't travel at all, not to buy electronic equipment or a new car and avoid going under the knife.  It's also a time to take care when speaking, since words may fall out of your mouth differently then you intended.

It's not all doom and gloom though. The bright side to this aspect is that during these periods I have learned to go with the flow and spend time in introspection, reviewing old patterns for release. It's all how you look at it and this timeframe also allows me to practice better patience and not to react when things go haywire, because the only thing we have control over is our reaction.

Welcome Back to the Classroom

No matter how evolved you are, there are always those opportunities for positive growth, that fine tuning, as you're made ready for embracing your higher-self more fully.

I was recently reminded that right before I was inspired to write my first book, The Awakening, I was subject to some pretty hard lessons of abuse. When I finally surrendered to “the all that is,” the inspiration to write came.  Was I still devastated from the abuse? Sure I was. But I didn’t allow it to keep me from moving forward as the draft of The Awakening poured onto paper.

When you live more in the higher vibration of love, it's easy to identify that which is outside of love, those lower vibrations of envy, pettiness, jealousy, judgment, control, etc. Know that some people live in continual fear and attempting to bring others down to their fear-based vibration knowingly or unknowingly due to patterning. That’s where all the drama comes from. 

We all have unpleasant experiences in our life.  Instead of reacting to personal attacks from people who dwell in fear-based vibrations and emotions, have compassion for them remembering that they know no better. It’s how we react, learn and grow that molds us into who we are.  Oh, an welcome back to the classroom.

People Cross Paths for Growth

People are put in our path for various reasons, but it all comes down to helping each other learn and grow. Below are a couple of scenarios I want you to consider.

Scenario 1 - Someone was put in your path with information that will inspire you to move forward. Perhaps it's to write that book that you’ve had on the back burner for a while. What do you do when you are provided with this gem? Do you see its value and take action?  Or do you allow fear of success to take over your mind, maybe becoming distracted by something else that consumes you until the inspiration fades or disappears?

Scenario 2 - Perhaps someone new is put in your path to provide you with yet another example of abuse that you’ve endured in the past. By abuse I’m not only speaking about physical or verbal attack, but all fear-based emotions like control, intimidation, pettiness, anger, jealousy, envy, clingy-neediness, etc. Do you allow yourself to get caught up in their drama, feeding it like a cancer?  I hope that you know that by doing so you’re doing both them and yourself a disservice.  Or are you able to quickly identify, process and release it as you send them love and compassion?

When you realize that BOTH the above scenarios are opportunities for positive growth, then you’re on the right track.  Regardless of the scenario, the sooner you take high vibrational action, the sooner you move forward.  That’s the difference between an opportunity for positive growth that lasts 5 minutes or a lifetime.  You can continue to live in fear-based emotions and allow the interaction to wear away at your very fiber or take the information with love and move forward.

Autumn Equinox 2014

The autumnal equinox, marks the first day of fall for the Northern Hemisphere. It's called the time of balance when there is typically 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. The Farmer's Almanac says "On the equinoxes, the very center of the Sun sets just 12 hours after it rises."

Autumnal Equinox Traditions include celebrations as people danced and rejoiced at the harvest. It includes rituals and religious observance including the feast of St. Michael and all Angels. The Autumnal Equinox is also a magical time within a metaphysical gateway. It is the time to shift and create. At this time day and night are in perfect balance as transformation begins. Just look at the trees, whose leaves change to provide a cornucopia of color before falling away. It is the natural cycle as we “fall” in love with our surroundings and get ready for winter.

We have entered the season of the goddess of balance. The Egyptian Goddess of Justice, Maat called this a time to let go of what makes the heart heavy so it is light to gain insight into and reveal your hidden destiny.

What are your desires for change within you, your life and the world? Do you seek inner balance or a deeper understanding of your life’s purpose or an increase in consciousness? If so, then take time to meditate and reflect as you release what no longer serves you and connect to that higher wisdom that will guide you forward.

What to Do When You Want to Scream

Did you ever had a period in your life when everything irritated you? Perhaps you cried, or yelled to the point of screaming. Why is that?  Well honey, it's stress.

If you are shaking your head in affirmation then know that you're not alone. Everyone at times feels so overwhelmed by life or the search for direction and stability that they feel like screaming.

Now, what are we supposed to do when we feel this way?

Ah, well that is the million dollar answer, now isn't it. And it can be as individual as we are.
I have a close friend who likes to soak in the tub for hours with candles burning and soft music. I can see her point. Although your physician may not subscribe a bath for you to relieve stress, giving yourself this mini spa experience can do wonders for reducing tension, not only in your psyche, but in your muscles as well. Let's face it, it is a delicious treat that you should indulge in more often.

That is, however, not the only way to bring down that which makes you jittery. For me meditation twice daily certainly allows me to live in the present as I work on my breathing. It allows me to think before reacting and has made me look youunger and feel amazing.

I beleive that  in the grand scheme of things you never get what you can't handle and they're all opportunities to positive growth, no matter what it feels like now.

As I said, everyone has their own form of stress relief. Finds yours.

The Goddess Diaries

This weekend was full of spiritual awakenings, syncronicty and connections. 
I was overjoyed to be interviewed by the goddess herself, Dawn Champine for her program the Goddess Diaries.

It was a fun hour of exchange of all that is spiritual as we shared experiences with her audience. I have had the most fortunate opportunity of spending time with Dawn and she is full of love, light and compassion.

The Energy Shift

I just wanted to talk a little about the energy shift. It first started in 1987 when many planets started to align. Some called it the beginning of the Christ Consciousness, the beginning of a new cycle that the ancient Incas or Mayans prophesied, I can never remember which. They called it the Harmonic Convergence.  Well it was the beginning to fixed planetary states as we awaited further planetary alignments, through 11/11/2011 (11:11) then the final alignments on 12/12/2012.  Then came 12/21/12, the end of the world. Well, technically for most there were no Earth shattering occurrences, but for those of us who knew the significance of this date, as the frequencies and vibrations of energy increased.   

Some called it a rebirthing, and others an evolutionary leap. All I know is that the vibrations and frequencies have increased. What does that mean?

Well, let's use the example of water and a stone. What happens when you toss a stone in water? You get a ripple in the water. Well if you put a device in water that vibrates, the water will vibrate. Are you getting it now? 

Waves of light changed the atmosphere of the Milky Way galaxy and has raised the level at which we all vibrate with an intensity having an effect on our minds and bodies.

You may be asking yourself, why should I care?

Well, my dears, look around you. Have you noticed yet that there are more people leaving the planet than ever before?  The new energies are intense and those who are not equipped to embrace them, well, some are choosing to leave. Statistics show an increase in suicide in the US and in Japan, Aokigahara, also known as the Suicide Forest has seen a spike in recent years.

Some are choosing drugs and alcohol to distract themselves and deal, but you don;t have to do that.

There are ways to align your energies through meditation and training. Sometimes a few simple excercises can make the difference as you increase your awareness. It always gives me such joy when I teach a class and I see the shift in the energy patterns of my students.

Never be Afraid of the Unknown Energies Around You

I received an email from someone looking for information on smudging which caused me to write today's article.  My article How and When to Smudge  explains all about smudging your home, what to use to smudge and has pictures and video. 

After you smudge you will feel peace and bliss in the house. But for those of you that are hearing voices or seeing wisps of energy flying around your home, you may still hear or sense other energy, even after you smudge.


You may be going through an "Awakening." 

With the new energies that are coming in, the veil is getting thinner and some of those energies maybe your guides trying to communicate with you.

Not all energy and spirits are negative. Don't be afraid if you are becoming more aware as the illusion of the 2-by-2 starts to fade. Yes of course smudge away any lower vibrational energy, but know that energy is all around us filling in the smallest spaces in our environment. And it's not all bad.
