By wearing a mask you pretend to be someone else. Let's take a moment and think about the masks that we've all worn over the years to hide out true selves from the world.
The real question is who are we hiding from? What's really going on here? Are we just fooling ourselves? I've worn many masks over the years and wondered when my mask wearing began and why. I came to a conclusion that it started for me in adolescence as a way to shield myself from harm.
Introvert hides us from the world to keep the attention off of us. Perhaps we are afraid of the opinion or judgement of others because we believe we are not good enough. Extrovert is a cry for attention and love we are not getting and worthiness of love and attention issues. Some use a mask of authority to control when their own life is out of control. I think you get the idea here. When we come to the workplace, it gets really complicated. These masks and defining oneself by what they do for a living.
So why do we feel the need to create masks? Are we are really hiding from ourselves when we put on a mask in front of others? Perhaps we're just not "facing" an issue? There are lots of possibilities here.
Masks really do not define us, but disguise us from all we meet and hide us, from ourselves, actually.
So, what would happen if we drop our masks?
Taking off our masks is not easy since we need to face ourselves. We may not like what we see when we look deeply at ourselves, but once you come to terms with it and heal that hurt child inside, I can tell you that it's worth it. If we're truly ever to be free we need to discard these masks and take the chance that what's behind them is worthy of all the Love this life has to offer.
As I continue to grow and blossom into the spiritual being, I discard and dispose of masks.
So discard your masks and be yourself. It can be very freeing.Taking off our masks is not easy since we need to face ourselves.
